I have a very serious love for music. As I am a full-time private music teacher, I must ask that my students also take their music study seriously. (While having fun, of course!) My teaching philosophy centers on creating dedicated music students, and my studio policies reflect that concept.
The following policies are guidelines for how I run my studio. Most of my policies are flexible—I will do my best to accommodate those who communicate with me about their concerns.
Please feel free to contact me via my email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or my cell phone (724) 816-6481. I will generally not answer the phone during lesson hours, from approximately 2:30pm – 8pm, Monday through Friday. If you must contact me during those hours, please leave a voice mail and I will get back to you as soon as I can.
General Lesson Information
Piano and voice lessons are scheduled in 30, 45, or 60 minute increments, and are offered in monthly packages. All students begin with 30 minute lessons. As students advance, the teacher may recommend longer lesson times. Music theory tutoring is offered in 30 or 60 minute increments, with the option of private or group sessions. Music theory tutoring can be arranged for single sessions or monthly packages.
Current Tuition Rates
Lessons are paid for by the month. This monthly tuition reserves you or your student’s weekly time slot and studio membership. It also helps cover the cost of copies, ink, paper, and other supplies that students will receive throughout the year. (Students are responsible for purchasing their own music and items such as metronomes, flash cards, and otherwise.) Please Note: There are no reimbursements for missed lessons and tuition is never adjusted from the monthly fee. (See "Missed Lessons / Make-Up Lessons" for more information.)
||Piano or Voice
||Music Theory (Individual)||Music Theory (Group)|
||$64 month / $16 session
||$128 month / $32 session
||$200 month / $50 session
Families wishing to enroll two or more students should ask about my family discount program!
While most calendar months have 4 lessons, some months may have only 3 lessons (due to holidays) -- please note that other months contain 5 lessons for which there is no additional charge.
Sara's Music Studio accepts cash or checks. Please try to bring
change if you are paying by cash. Checks should be
made out to "Sara's Music Studio." A
penalty fee of $30.00 will be charged for any NSF checks.
Due Dates and Late Fees
Tuition is always due at the first lesson of the month. Tuition not received by the 10th of the month will be assessed a $10.00 late fee. Late fees should be included with the monthly payment—if a late fee is not included, it will be carried over to the next monthly payment.
Missed Lessons / Make-Up Lessons
Because there are no reimbursements for missed lessons, missed lessons can be made up. Make-up lessons are scheduled at the convenience of the teacher and availability of the studio. Make-up lessons will not be given if the teacher is not notified of the cancellation before the actual time of the lesson. If a make-up lesson is missed, the lesson is forfeited. (I will do my best to reschedule lesson times, but I cannot always guarantee make-up lesson availability. Please consider this when you schedule your monthly lesson times—in other words, do not schedule a lesson time which you know will constantly conflict with other commitments.)
Please Note: When sufficient time is given of your cancellation, your time can be given to another as their make-up time. Please let me know as soon as possible if you know you have a conflict with your lesson time. This benefits everyone: make-ups are provided more promptly, parents are given sufficient time to adjust their schedules, and the studio runs more smoothly.
Holidays / Teacher Cancellation
The studio will be closed on the following days:
||December 23rd - January 1st
If any parent/student scheduled lessons on a Monday and feels shortchanged because of the number of Monday holidays—simply request a make-up and it will be provided.
If, for any reason, the teacher must cancel a lesson, the student will be offered a make-up lesson or credit towards the following month. (This happens very rarely.)
Summer Lesson Options
Students are expected to continue lessons throughout the summer. Those who cannot attend lessons full-time will be given the option to move to a less intense summer schedule. (Details provided in the spring.) As this is my full-time vocation, I cannot hold lesson times for students who opt to take a break in the summer.
The piano is a shared instrument, and illness can be easily passed from student to teacher to other students. Students are strongly encouraged to wash their hands before each lesson. Please feel free to use the facilities down the hall. Students who are ill are asked to not attend lessons. If you are too sick to attend school, you are too sick to attend your lesson. Please contact me and I will do my best to reschedule your lesson. Please Note: I reserve the right to cut short any lesson in which it becomes evident that a student is ill with symptoms of a cough, cold, or flu. In such case, no make-up lesson will be issued.
Food / Drink
Food, gum, and non-water drinks are prohibited in the music studio.
Discontinuation of Lessons
Students wishing to discontinue lessons must give two weeks notice. If lessons are terminated in the middle of a month, the remainder of that month’s tuition will not be refunded.
