Piano Lessons for Kids and Adults in the Shenango Valley
You’re not looking for the piano teacher down the street who’s been teaching out of 50-year-old method books. You want a warm, nurturing environment where your kid (or you) feels safe to explore, make mistakes, and actually enjoy making music.
That’s exactly what you’ll find at Sara’s Music Studio.

Piano Lessons You’ll Love
Learning piano should feel good! Every student who walks through my door — whether they’re 7 or 47 — gets a lesson experience that’s tailored to how they learn best and what they actually love about music.
“Sara is incredibly patient and always creates a comfortable learning environment, no matter your skill level. We feel very lucky to have found a piano teacher who’s so encouraging, creative, and dedicated to her students!” ~ Christina Raiser, New Castle, PA

Start Making Real Music From Day One
Most beginners spend months on exercises that sound like, well, exercises. Not here. I use the Piano Pronto method — a modern approach built around songs you already know — so students are making music that actually sounds like music from the very first lesson. After 20 years of teaching and trying just about every method out there, this is my favorite!
Piano Lessons That Make You Actually Want to Practice
Nothing kills motivation faster than boring repertoire, so we don’t do boring repertoire here. Once the basics are in place, we open things up. Video game soundtracks, YouTube favorites, whatever’s on their Spotify right now — if it’s music they love, we can work with it. I’ve spent years finding great arrangements that are level-appropriate and actually sound fantastic.
Learning Piano Goes Beyond the Bench
We learn best when we’re having fun. The studio is stocked with games and apps that make note reading, rhythm, and music theory feel less like homework and more like playing. No dusty theory workbooks in sight!
“My son has been a student of Sara for over 7 years. He is now 16 and still loves playing the piano and going to class! Sara takes the time to ensure the student has the necessary technical skills, but she encourages his ability to play multiple genres. Her enthusiasm is infectious and encourages my son to continue growing!” ~ Tammy Dawson

What You’ll Need at Home for Piano Lessons
A real instrument. This one’s non-negotiable, and it matters more than most people realize. To make real progress, you need access to a fully functional, well-tuned piano or a full-sized weighted keyboard for daily practice. A tiny unweighted keyboard from a big box store isn’t going to cut it. Not sure what to look for? I’m happy to point you in the right direction.

A Word About Piano Practice
Showing up to lessons is wonderful, but the real progress happens at home, between lessons.
I don’t assign a specific number of minutes to practice each day. Because watching the clock is a great way to make practice feel like a chore! Instead, we’ll set specific targets at the end of each lesson, and the goal is to practice until you hit them. Some days that takes 10 minutes. Some days it takes 30. What matters is that you’re showing up to the piano consistently — ideally 4 to 5 days a week.
Think of it this way: lessons are where we learn. Practice is where it actually sticks!
“Three of our children have been blessed by lessons with Miss Sara for well over a decade. She provides the perfect mix of comfort and challenge and has worked exceptionally hard to keep music and pieces fun and interesting for our boys as they grow.” ~ Ryan Harvey, New Wilmington, PA

Frequently Asked Questions
What ages do you teach?
Piano lessons are available for students ages 7 and up. Both kids and adults are welcome! The studio works with a wide range of ages and experience levels.
How long are piano lessons?
Lessons are 45 minutes long. This gives us enough time to work on technique, dig into repertoire, and still have room for off-bench activities.
Do I need a piano at home?
Yes — and this one matters more than most people realize. To make real progress, you need access to a fully functional, well-tuned acoustic piano or a full-sized weighted keyboard for daily practice. A small unweighted keyboard from a big box store isn’t going to cut it. Not sure what to look for? I’m happy to help point you in the right direction.
What if we have to miss a lesson?
Rather than trying to schedule make-up lessons, the studio uses online and recorded video lessons as the make-up option. It keeps things simple and flexible for everyone.
How much should my student practice?
I don’t assign a specific number of minutes — because watching the clock is a great way to make practice feel like a chore. Instead, we set specific targets at the end of each lesson and the goal is to practice until you hit them. For most students, that means showing up to the piano 4 to 5 days a week.
Do you do recitals or performances?
The studio is intentionally small, and as such we have not offered recitals or performances for the past several years. For those who wish to perform, we work together to find opportunities outside of the studio. Many students here perform in school talent shows, as accompanists for school choirs, or in their home church.
Where are you located?
Sara’s Music Studio is located in West Middlesex, PA on Carbaugh Street, right across from the West Middlesex School District. We have a dedicated parking lot and a small lobby where parents and well-behaved (and watched-over!) siblings are welcome to wait during lesson time. Online piano lessons are also available.
How much do piano lessons cost?
Tuition is billed monthly or by semester — full semester payments receive a discount. All lesson materials are included in tuition (books, sheet music, binders, and more — no surprise supply lists). For current tuition rates, [reach out and I’ll be happy to share the details →].
