Halloween Music Giveaway

Halloweentitle

It’s that time of year again. The mums outside the studio entrance are in full bloom and there’s a crispness in the air. The leaves are changing colors, pumpkins are popping up on porch steps, and students are starting to whisper about their Halloween costume ideas.

(Ok, they’re not really whispering – more like making excited declamatory statements like “I’m going to be ANA from FROZEN for Halloween!” or “This year I’m going to be a NINJA!”)

In celebration of October, I’d like to spotlight a fun new music resource for Halloween. Read on for my review of the Halloween Megapack by Supersonics Piano, and be sure to check out the awesome giveaway and discount code at the end!

Daniel McFarlane

Supersonics Piano is the brainchild of Daniel McFarlane, a piano teacher and composer from Brisbane, Australia. Daniel started his teaching career in 1997, and has been writing original compositions for the past 8 years. His collections range from elementary to late intermediate, so there’s something for almost everyone in your studio.

The Halloween Megapack from Supersonics has been a big hit with my students this year. With titles like “Creepy Crawlies” and “Night Flyer,” these compositions are perfect for students who love to play descriptive character pieces in minor keys. There are two elementary pieces, one late elementary duet/trio, two intermediate solos, and one intermediate duet/trio. All six Halloween pieces are available for purchase individually, or you can save a substantial amount by purchasing the Megapack, which also includes studio licensing.

Things I Love About This:

Learning Experience: One of my favorite features about the Halloween Megapack is that Daniel created matching theory worksheets for the elementary pieces “Creepy Crawlies” and “Spooky.” The worksheets help students review accidental signs, articulations, and other music symbols that are used throughout the pieces. These PDFs are perfect to print out and send home, or you can load them onto an iPad or tablet and use them during lessons.

Extra Incentive: Supersonics Piano is sponsoring a Halloween Challenge from now through October 30th. Each purchase includes an entry form which students or teachers can submit as students achieve points by completing worksheets and learning and/or performing the pieces. I have several students who are really excited about finishing their pieces this week.

iPad Bonus: The elementary solos are both available on Piano Maestro for free! You can find them through the Supersonic Method books in the library. (Just go to Library –> Methods –> Supersonics Piano) Piano Maestro allows students and teachers to select the tempo, choose left/right/both hands, and you can even add the note names for very young students. Students can play them directly on the iPad, or use the program in conjunction with their acoustic piano or digital keyboard.

There are so many unique features to these pieces. Check out everything that’s included with each piece and with the Megapack:

  • PDF files of the piece(s), complete with awesome creepy fonts. (Every single one of my students commented on how cool the fonts looked.)
  • MP3 backing tracks with and without metronome clicks
  • MP3 files of the complete pieces (backing tracks + piano)
  • Piano Maestro access for the elementary pieces
  • PDFs and PNG files of worksheets for the elementary pieces
  • Access to the Halloween Challenge

Supersonics Piano also has a Facebook discussion group, where you can ask Daniel questions and talk to other teachers who have used his compositions in their studio. Teachers can join this group for free! Join the Supersonics Piano Discussion Group.
