Are You Hiding?

Are You Hiding?

I’ve been thinking a lot about how we “hide” from the potential for success.

We shy away from posting about lesson openings, talk ourselves out of contacting that choir director, or decide that it’s too much $$ to take out that ad in the Mommy n’ Me bulletin.

We put up barriers to protect ourselves, our ideas, or our businesses.

Why?

Because we’re afraid of rejection.

And so we protect ourselves from rejection by hiding our offerings from the world.

“I shouldn’t post about lesson openings because it sounds desperate. And then people will think that I’m struggling to get students.”

“That choir director is so busy right now, and besides they probably already have a piano accompanist (or voice coach) for their musical.”

“Advertising is so expensive, and what if I don’t get any results? It will just be a waste of time and money..”

Here’s the deal…

I came across this quote the other day, and it blew my mind:

“Hiding is our way of rejecting ourselves in advance so that other people don’t get the opportunity.”

It’s like putting on the brakes before we even hit the gas pedal! We don’t even allow ourselves the opportunity to move forward. We just stay where we are and try our best to ignore our discomfort.

hiding, business coach, business advice

This form of self-sabotage can be intentional, but it can also be unintentional.

YES! Sometimes we don’t even realize that we’re hiding ourselves. Fear of rejection (and/or fear of success) can be sneaky like that.

For example: Last week I realized that while I’ve been really busy in the coaching side of my business, I didn’t actually have a social media presence as a business coach.

And someone called me out on it.

(THANK YOU!)

Um, hello? What was I thinking? This oversight was hiding my offerings from the world! How can we do what we love to do if we don’t TELL PEOPLE about it?

We need to tell others what we do for a living.

We need to reach out and network with that choir director.

We need to buy that ad in the Mommy n’ Me publication.

In order to grow, we need to stop hiding.

That means doing the things that scare us. And listening to others when they call us out.

I hope this gives you ideas to munch on over the next several weeks.  Look for more business and mindset topics from me going forward…

I’ll be sharing business boosting mojo every day on FB and Instagram.  <3

Because I’m not hiding anymore.

And neither should you.
